47th Avenue Farm 47thavefarm.com/
47thAF says: “We are an urban farm in Southeast Portland dedicated to growing produce for Portland residents, seasonally and sustainably. Our farm is based on a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) model. This means that we grow for a set number of harvest shareholders who join us at the beginning of the year. These households and families then share in the bounty of the harvest throughout the growing season. This provides financial support for the farmers early in the spring when it is most needed. In return, we share the fruits of an abundant and diverse harvest. In this way, the farm and families form a network of mutual support.”
Portland Farmers Markets portlandfarmersmarket.org/default.htm
PFM says: “Portland Farmers Market was founded in 1992 by a small group of community activists who wanted βto bring the best of the country to the heart of the city.β The original Saturday market at Albers Mill had 13 vendors. Several of those first vendors still sell at PFM. By 2006, PFM had grown to 3 downtown weekly markets with vendor sales in excess of $5 million. In 2006, the market organizers added the management of a fourth market β the Eastbank Farmers Market.
The goals in 1992 were the same as the goals are today β to create venues where local farmers can connect directly with Portland consumers, to build community in an urban setting, and to provide public education on regional farming, gardening and food preparation. “
Zenger Farm zengerfarm.org/
ZF says: Zenger Farm is located on 16 acres owned by the City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services. The farm consists of 6 acres of farmland and facility space and 10 acres of protected wetlands. The wetlands at Zenger are an important part of the Johnson Creek Watershed. By having the wetlands attached to the farmland, Zenger has a unique opportunity to educate kids and the community about the importance of sustainable farming practices and how these practices impact with the wetlands.
