Our Comments

Why do we single out the Joe Bar? The crepes and sandwiches are nice, but not spectacular. The coffee is good but not outstanding. The place is small and it’s usually hard to find a seat. And it opens too late (see below) for many of us early coffee drinkers.

But the Joe Bar is about community values, meeting people, and unexpected wall art presentations (managed by their One-eared Rabbit Collaborative). It is writers and scientists, artists and dancers, all crammed together on a level playing field. The cafe is situated in the charming Loveless Building (on the National Register of Historic Places), under the shade of a giant elm tree in the most historic section of Capitol Hill.
